Conductor
Soojin Lee, DMA
University of Cincinnati, DMA and MM
Dr. Soojin Lee served as Music Director of the University of Findlay Orchestra, where she conducted regular semester concerts and developed performances that invited the broader community onto the stage. She has been a faculty member at Columbus Academy since 2013. She also served as Music Director of the KCC String Chamber Orchestra, organizing community concerts that fostered strong connections between performers and audiences.
Dr. Lee has been invited to conduct and have concert with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra in Germany in August 2026. As Assistant Conductor at the Miami Music Festival, Dr. Lee collaborated on major productions including Die Walküreby Richard Wagner and The Planets by Gustav Holst.
She has conducted the Collegiate Wind Ensemble and University Band at The Ohio State University and taught with the Columbus Youth Symphony Orchestra. She was also selected as an opera conductor for the Realizing Rossini Summer Workshop at the College Conservatory of Music, University of CIncinnati.
Her professional development includes participation in the Starling-DeLay Symposium on Violin Studies at The Juilliard School, the International Viola Congress at College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, the Vernon Castleman Viola Seminar at Cleveland Institute of Music, and the American String Teachers Association National Conference.
An active soloist and chamber musician, Dr. Lee won First Prize in the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, leading to a performance at Carnegie Hall in 2014. She has presented numerous solo recitals, including a winner’s recital at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City.
A native of South Korea, Dr. Lee performed with the Korean Symphony Orchestra in Seoul before moving to the United States in 2006. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in Viola Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. She studied orchestra conducting at University of Cincinnati and earned a Master of Music in Conducting from The Ohio State University. She studied with Samuel Lee, Mark Gibson, Russell Mikkelson, Masao Kawasaki, Dr. Catharine Lees.
